Three key features of the Digital Humanities today are its quantitative growth, its institutionalisation and its definition as a discipline. In the first part of this article (2. Institutional models) I shall pinpoint some models of institutionalisation that are emerging in the international scenario. Against this background, I shall then discuss (3. Knowledge in microbiology is reaching an extreme level of diversification and complexity, which paradoxically results in a strong reduction in the intelligibility of microbial life. In our days, the “score of life” metaphor is more accurate to express the complexity of living systems than the classic “book of life.” Music and life can be represented at lower hierarchical levels by music scores and genomic sequences, and such representations have a generational influence in the reproduction of music and life. RESUMEN En esta comunicación se sugiere una revisión de la clásica escisión entre teorías cognotivistas y no cognotivistas, a la luz que pueda resultar del repaso a algunos hitos de la teoría del conocimiento como nueva “filosofía primera” o “filosofía primera” propia de la modernidad y que debieron afectar a la cuestión del estatuto epistemológico de las llamadas ciencias normativas.
